class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We are thrilled to announce that the recent two days of beamtime at the <strong>Monoenergetic Positron Source (MePS)<\/strong> on April 2024, which was the first beamtime allocated at the <strong>ELBE research infrastructure<\/strong> as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/remade-project.eu\/\">ReMade@ARI project<\/a>, was a success!<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/svg\/1f680.svg\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude80\" \/> Researchers at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hzdr.de\/db\/Cms?pNid=0\">HZDR<\/a> in collaboration with two researcher teams coming from Italy and Portugal successfully investigated atomic defects in advanced materials using <b>positron annihilation spectroscopy<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-aac949d elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" explored:<\/p><p><strong>\u26ac Damage accumulation in Cr-implanted \u03b2-Ga<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub>:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Researchers led by Duarte Magalhaes Esteves<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/tecnico.ulisboa.pt\/en\/\">Instituto Superior T\u00e9cnico<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulisboa.pt\/en\">Universidade de Lisboa<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/inescmn\/home\">INESC Microssistemas e Nanotecnologias<\/a> studied Cr-implanted \u03b2-Ga<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub>, a promising\u00a0wide\u00a0band gap semiconductor material with great potential for applications such as radiation detectors\u00a0and high-power devices. The team uses ion radiation to induce the delamination of a thin surface layer, which is then treated to form a free-standing nanomembrane. This method offers significant material savings, potentially creating thousands of functional and highly efficient devices from a single bulk sample.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hzdr.de\/db\/Cms?pOid=41983&amp;pNid=3537&amp;pLang=en\">Ion Beam Center<\/a> offered the <b>precise ion beams needed to control the nanofabrication process<\/b>, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hzdr.de\/db\/Cms?pOid=35245&amp;pNid=3225\">MePS<\/a> provided the necessary timing resolution for Ga<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub> analysis;\u00a0crucial to distinguish between occurring defect types: the only positron facility for this material worldwide. Both facilities at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hzdr.de\/db\/Cms?pNid=0\">HZDR<\/a> were available for user access within the <a href=\"https:\/\/remade-project.eu\/\">ReMade@ARI project<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>\u26ac Impact of metals blend and electrochemical cycling on defectivity and lattice resilience in layered oxides used as cathode materials for innovative batteries:<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Sergio Brutti<\/strong>, <strong>Laura Silvestri<\/strong> and <strong>Arcangelo Celeste<\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uniroma1.it\/en\/pagina-strutturale\/home\">Sapienza Universit\u00e0 di Roma<\/a> investigated how metal composition and battery cycling affect cathode materials. Li-rich layered oxides are crucial for high-performing, sustainable batteries. The <b>Positron Annihilation technique<\/b> helps reveal hidden defects in pristine and cycled materials, vital for battery development aligned with the new EU Circular Economy Action Plan.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/svg\/1f64f.svg\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude4f\" \/> We warmly thank
